Creating my Still life
For our first assignment in Advanced 3d Graphics (A3d) we had to create a Still Life piece based on objects of our choosing, so I chose some things that mean a lot to me - Lightsaber I made on my trip to disneyland, California in 2008, Star Wars DVDs (prequels only because I don't own the originals currently), KOTOR Book because i enjoyed reading it, Pokemon Season 1 because that was my childhood and Skulduggery Pleasant books 1 & 2, because it's my favourite book series and i have near half the books signed by Derek Landy himself (as evidenced in the picture). The poster backdrop was just because it looked kinda cool and to fill in space
My process when it came to creating this still life was relatively simple, given how simple all the objects where - which is perfect for me, because I'm not a very confident modeler, animation being more my thing despite my tutor telling me "make the hard bits first" I made all the lightsaber last, because the rest of the objects are just rectangles anyway I used a 123d catch to get a rough idea of where to put everything, though it wasn't the same as the photoshoot because I (intelligently) did it a few days later and had to set everything up again, so they weren't in exactly the same position. The lightsaber caused a few issues, firstly that I forgot to enable autosave and crashed maya after having finished modelling it - though this was solved through maya saving a crash file. after modelling was finished (3-4 days), I moved on to texturing, which was simple in it's own right as well, I applied various pxrDisney shaders to the lightsaber and grabbed scans of the books/Pokemon case - though I grabbed textures online for the Star Wars DVDs and only later realised that SW3 didn't have the PG sign on the case in the texture I grabbed online Lighting took forever, because there were a couple of spots of specular that troubled me, namely the Purple/Orange parts on the button guard and the orange glow in the square outcropping just above it, but once everything was sorted out I started rendering and playing around in Nuke I animated a BB-8 toy rig that was created by one of the Tutors at Yoobee (In-house, known as BB9) UPDATE - 7/7/2016 After some time, I finally re-rendered my still life - now including the animation that failed to render last time I rendered it all in a single render pass, unlike last time which was in 5 separate passes, so I didn't have any control in nuke like last time and I just left it as was upon rendering out of maya

2015 Animation projects
These were the animation projects that I took part in during my 2015 course (15ADAN04, Diploma of Animation)
The body mechanics project was one of two animations for our mid-year animation projects, I recorded myself jumping over a table and animated it The individual project was exactly that, we were given a choice of what we wanted to do, and we did the whole thing by ourselves - I chose animation and this was the result The short film was a group project by the entire class I was animating from day 1 (blocking through to secondary) until the last day, and often had people coming to me asking which shots they should do and what to do with them. Matchmoving
over the last week and a half, we've been learning match moving and live integration
I'm not really enjoying this kind of stuff but I imagine it's good to know the animation's not necessarily great and I intend to improve on it in my own time soon |
